Martin Scorsese to Direct in 3-D
What with everyone directing in 3-D now-a-days it was only a matter of time before the Hollywood big wigs jumped on board. Martin Scoresese has always been a brilliant director, what with films such as Goodfellas, Casino, and his newest film Shutter Island. He now is tackling a new challenge, a 3-D film about a robot set in 1930′s Paris, and to me this sounds like the best idea EVER.

The film is to be called The Invention of Hugo Cabret, which was written by Brian Selznick and is the first film adaptation of one of his novels. Some of the cast has already been chosen and it includes such names as Chloe Mortez (Kick-Ass, 500 Days of Summer), Ben Kingsley (Everything… my favorite being Lucky Number Slevin), and Sacha Baron Cohen (Borat, Sweeny Todd).

The film will apparently be shot using 3-D technology allowing Scorsese to get the full affect without having to convert the film after it’s complete. I think this is a great idea as it was the way Avatar was done, and that came out beautiful. With all this 3-D technology out however I do hope that old Hollywood doesn’t lose it’s flair…but we shall see.

I’m definitely am a supporter of 3D. However, I am not a fan of being forced into it (like Clash of the Titans). Films shouldn’t be converted into 3D in post-production either. If the director(especially Scorsese)truly wants to shoot it in 3D, then I’m all for it.
